Mark presses the government for more bobbies on the beat10.50.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 10th Jul 2006
"If it's good enough for London, it's good enough for the rest of us" - that was the message Cheadle MP Mark Hunter sent to government last week as he called for more police resources for our area. In a question to the Leader of the House of Commons, Mark called for a debate in Parliament about the London Metropolitan Polce's use of dedicated, ward based community policing teams. Mark wants the system 'rolled out' to other parts of the country. After his question, Mark said, "Due to the policy of community policing, London now has levels of policing that we can only dream of here in Cheadle. In London, every council ward now has six dedicated officers whose prime focus is on providing high visibility, local policing. This is exactly the kind of move that would make a real difference to our area." "It simply isn't fair that London can benefit from increased police cover when our local force is currently talking about cutbacks to front line officers. More bobbies on the beat in places like Bramhall, Gatley, Heald Green, Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme would make a big difference in tackling anti-social behaviour which can blight the lives of the local community."
