Cheadle MP Mark Hunter visited Adswood Household Recycling Centre on Friday to meet the site management and put the pressure on to raise the height of the entry barrier. The barrier was lowered to 5ft 9in prohibiting local residents with larger vehicles from entering the site.

The on-site meeting was arranged after Mark contacted Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) to raise his concerns. Mark was accompanied by local residents who had contacted his office to voice their anger at decision by the Labour run GMWDA.

After listening to local resident's frustrations, GMWDA agreed to a compromise measure. The barrier will now be re-located so that resident's can have unrestricted access to the household waste re-cycling section.

Mark says: "I am delighted that the GMWDA have now come to their senses. I understand the site management wanting to stop businesses illegally dumping commercial waste. However, at the same time they also prevented hundreds of local residents from entering the site. It really was a classic case of using a sledge hammer to crack a nut."
