Supporting Comic Relief - MP Mark Hunter visits local school children on Red Nose Day12.35.11pm GMT Mon 19th Mar 2007
Cheadle MP Mark Hunter today (Friday, 16 March) attended Queen's Road Primary in Cheadle Hulme, where pupils were marking Red Nose Day with a break from their school uniform. For some, however, this by no means meant dressing down for the occasion, sporting as they did fancy dress, coloured hair, and of course - red noses. Money raised from the non-uniform day will be donated to Comic Relief, helping to raise funds for disadvantaged people both in the UK and in Africa. Mark was greeted by children from years one to six, who were eager to show their support for the cause. Comic Relief raised £65million through Red Nose Day 2005, and Mark was happy to see his young constituents helping to make this year's event just as successful. As Deputy Foreign Affairs Spokesman for the Liberal Democrats, Mark is especially aware of the effects of poverty, disease, and war in the developing world, and was keen to lend his support to the cause. Whilst being shown the school by head teacher Mrs Wilde, Mark voiced his admiration for the children's efforts, "School visits are one of the most rewarding aspects of the job and it has been a pleasure to visit Queen's Road Primary and see the children getting so involved in such worthwhile cause".
