MP presents local school children with Christmas Card Competition prize4.04.19pm GMT Mon 10th Dec 2007
Mark Hunter, MP for the Cheadle Constituency this year launched a Christmas Card design competition for local primary school children, the result of which was announced last Friday (7th December) when Mr Hunter presented winner Edward Wordingham from Prospect Vale Primary School with his prize at a special school assembly. The competition was organised to choose a design for the MP's Christmas card which is to be delivered to some 37,000 homes across the constituency. Primary school children from all over the constituency were invited to come up with a fun and original design for the Christmas card. School children from Prospect Vale Primary School, Meadowbank Primary School, Etchells Primary School, Hursthead Infant School, Hursthead Junior School and Cheadle Primary School all entered the competition. A winner from each year was picked by a panel of experts and the MP, and an overall winner from all the entrants was chosen. The winner for year 2 was Max Bentley from Hursthead Infant School, for year 3 was Olivia Lemage from Hursthead Junior School, for year 4 was Lucy Taylor from Prospect Vale Primary School, for year 5 was Rachel Jane Downs from Etchells Primary School, for year 6 was Ellie Harding from Cheadle Primary School. Each of the year winners received a special book from the House of Commons. The overall winner was Edward Wordingham from Prospect Vale Primary School, a year 4 pupil. Edward received a goodie bag from the House of Commons and will get to see his Christmas card design on the front of all 37,000 Christmas Cards currently being delivered across the Constituency by the local Liberal Democrat team. Speaking just after the presentation Mark Hunter said "It was a really difficult decision to pick a winner from all the entries we received. We obviously have some very talented artists amongst our young children, and that doesn't just include the winners this time.
I was extremely pleased to present Edward and the other winners with their prizes. All the entries were brilliant and I hope that everyone enjoys the card when it arrives on their doorstep."
