Today the new Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg MP, announced his new Shadow Cabinet. There were substantial changes to the front bench line up, with runner-up in the leadership contest Chris Huhne MP announced as Shadow Home Secretary.

In the re-shuffle Mr Hunter, the MP for Cheadle will be taking on the key role of Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Leader, a role which will see him attending the Shadow Cabinet for the first time.

Speaking after the appointment Mr Hunter said "I am absolutely delighted that I will be able to be working so closely with Nick over the coming months and years. I am looking forward to helping him in every way that I can as he carves out his role as Liberal Democrat leader and takes our party forward.

We worked together on the home affairs team last year and I am very pleased that I will be able to play a key role in the new Shadow Cabinet team. I believe that with Nick as leader The Liberal Democrats can really change the face of politics. I am very excited about the future of our party and look forward to playing my part in helping this future become realised."
