Local MP to make debut as Transport Spokesperson at Lib Dem Spring Conference1.27.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 29th Feb 2008
Local Liberal Democrats in Cheadle are heading to Liverpool next weekend for the party's spring conference, including Local MP Mark Hunter and several local Councillors. Liberal Democrats from the local area and across the country will be meeting in the city from 7th to 9th March. During the Conference Mr Hunter will be making his maiden speech as deputy Transport Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats at the launch of the party's consultation on transport policies. The consultation process is designed to allow all party members to have their say on what the detail of the Liberal Democrat Transport policy should be. During his speech Mr Hunter will explain why transport is such an important area for the Liberal Democrats, and what the Liberal Democrat vision for Local and National Transport is. Mark Hunter MP said, "I am very much looking forward to this conference, and my new role as deputy Transport spokesman for the party. Transport is a very important issue for the Cheadle constituency. We have the West Coast Main Line running through the constituency, commuter rail services, a desperate need for the completion of the A555 relief road and the extension of Metrolink, as well as the need for other improvements to local public transport. "During the Conference Nick Clegg will be making his first conference speech as Leader of the Liberal Democrats and the party's Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable MP, will also be speaking. "I myself will be introducing the Transport Consultation launch and am very much looking forward to hearing the views of all members of the party as to how we can improve transport both locally and nationally." The Liberal Democrats hold two national conferences a year, the first in March and the main one in September.
